Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between reo sac® and other reinforced bladders?

The reo sac® is superior to other reinforced bladder tanks in the following ways:

  • it has the unique steel mounting plate that ensures there is no movement in the fixed PVC pipe work
  • the unique mounting plate not only fixes the pipe work in place but it ensures that there is no stress or pressure on the pipe work
  • the standard inlet fitting is 100mm PVC - the same as everyday normal PVC pipe work that you will have on the side of your house. In case you only have 80mm or 90mm pipe work , a 100mm-80mm or 100-90mm reducer is included as standard in the kit. Alternatively, you can use an adaptor if you have rectangular or metal down pipes. Most other reinforced bladder brands supply only a small diameter tank fitting (normally 50mm) which reduces the flow rate into the bladder tank during a high rainfall event. The combination of the large inlet fitting and the unique steel mounting plate allows multiple bladder tanks to be connected together via a 100mm manifold to maximise the fill rate and ensure multiple bladder tanks fill and empty as one large tank.
  • Each and every reo sac® is tested in the factory before it leaves carrying its own unique serial number which is tracked from its initial fabrication through to its final installation (as long as you send us your warranty registration form or register on our website so we know where it is!)
  • reo sac® has its own sales team that is available in all eastern seaboard cities to follow up on any installation issues, warranty claims or concerns relating to the product
  • reo sac® has a national network of preferred installers who can provide you with an obligation free quote for the supply and installation of a reo sac® bladder tank
  • the reo sac® comes standard with a 25mm air vent with mosquito protection to ensure any air entering the bladder tank can easily escape without placing any pressure on the bladder tank itself. This air vent is 67% larger than most other brands meaning there is no risk of undue pressure being placed on your bladder tank by air trying to escape during a rapid fill in heavy rain.
  • the reo sac® has a full 10 year warranty (be wary of brands offering only pro-rata warranties)
  • The reo sac® pipe work is on the side of the bladder and so you will not get muddy water from the regurgitated sludge that you would if it was on the bottom of the sac

Why does reo sac® need the mini frame?

The mini frame at the end of the reo sac® allows us to screw in our unique mounting plate which acts as a support brace for the inlet and outlet pipes. This ensures that the pipe work is static in accordance with AS/NZS3500. No other frameless bladder has supported pipe work.

If the inlet is on the side of the bladder without a mounting plate then the inlet pipe will tilt up and down every time the bladder fills and empties. This will put strain on the join and could cause a leak.

If the inlet is underneath the bladder instead of at the side then it would be inaccessible and would have the full weight of the bladder (up to 10 tonnes) on it and, more importantly, it would mean that the natural sludge that always occurs in a rainwater tank would be regurgitated through the bladder every time it filled so you would get muddy water. In quality tanks and bladders any sludge will always be below the oultet pipe to prevent this from happening. Some sludge will always appear in the bottom of tanks regardless of the installation of rain heads and first flush devices

What is the difference between eco sac® and reo sac®

The eco sac® is installed inside a steel frame which provides greater peace of mind that the water you capture and store will stay within the exact location you want it to. The eco sac® will also store approximately 20% more water for the space it takes up on the ground because the flexible PVC material fills the frame and harness and takes on a "square" shape within the framework. The eco sac® also has a full range of protective covers available.

The reo sac® does not require a frame due to the reinforced nature of the material. It has the same inlet and outlet configuration as the eco sac® with the same unique mounting plate. However, the absolute location and footprint size of a filled reo sac® cannot be guaranteed (this is the same for all reinforced bladder tanks) as it can with the eco sac®. reo sac® holds less water than the eco sac® due to the non-flexible characteristics of the material (but the reo sac® does hold the same amount of water as comparable width/length frameless bladders).

What is the size of the reo sac® box?

The box for the reo sac® bladder tank is relatively small and can easily fit in the boot of most cars. It measures 380mm W x 480mm H x 900mm L. In some cases for larger sizes there may be a second box with some of the frame and fitting components.

How much water storage do I need?

The answer depends on two things:

  1. How big your roof is to capture the rainfall that you need?
  2. What you want to use the water for?

Call the Waterplex® team on 1300 72 66 70 in Australia or, in New Zealand, call us on 0800 RAINSAC or 0800 724672 and we will help you determine how much storage you need in order to have enough water for all the things you want to use it for. Remember that 1mm of rain on 1 square metre of roof will give you 1 litre of water.

What colour is it? Does it come in other colours?

The reo sac® colour is grey. It is only available in one colour due to the highly specialised nature of the material.

What is in the reo sac® kit?

With every kit you get:

  • the bladder with 100mm inlet and 2 x 32mm outlets fitted
  • Steel mounting plate for inlet and outlets with a supporting frame
  • protective geo textile fabric ground sheet
  • 2 ball valves
  • screws and brass locking nuts
  • 300mm length of 25mm vent pipe with mosquito protection
  • 1 x 100mm-90mm reducer or 1 x 100-80mm reducer
  • 1 overflow relief valve
  • a pump (optional)

Will the reo sac® leak?

No. reo sac® is manufactured using industrial strength reinforced fabric sealed by high frequency welding. The reo sac® manufacturing technology is taken from much larger industrial applications for bladders holding over 100,000 litres of fluids much heavier than water. reo sac® uses the overlap method of welding the seams which is much stronger than the "fuse" method used by most other brands or cheaper imported products.

What about difficult access under my house or deck?

A reo sac® flexible rainwater storage system will fit under your house as long as a person can get under your house. Ideally, a height of at least 700mm is preferred as it will enable maximum storage capacity for your reo sac®. The sac will fill to a height of 600mm except for the narrower widths that only fill to 500mm (refer to the size and capacity chart)

If space is tight, the overflow pipe can be set lower than 600mm. The height of the overflow pipe from the base of the bladder tank will determine the height to which the reo sac® fills.

Can a pump be connected to a reo sac®?

Yes. Any type of pump and/or mains-water control system can be connected to your reo sac® flexible rainwater storage system.

If you want to reticulate inside the house for toilet or washing machine you will need to buy a "float chamber" (our part number is ESC3000) to connect the Mains water controller to the reo sac® .The Controller knows when the reo sac® is empty and will then switch back to Mains water so that you can still flush your toilets.

Can a reo sac® overfill?

Not if the reo sac® is installed according to the installation instructions! Our preferred professional installer network is properly trained to ensure that the reo sac® will never overfill. It is essential that the overflow pipe be set correctly at no more than 600mm from the base of the bladder.

Once the bladder is full, any excess rain will divert to the existing stormwater system. Unlike any other flexible or fixed rainwater storage system, the reo sac® includes a fail-safe relief point for the overflow pipe . This is a safety mechanism to ensure that if you have a blockage in your stormwater, then it will not back-fill into the sac but will escape through the relief flap.

Does the reo sac® need to sit on level ground?

Yes. The ground under a reo sac® cannot be sloping. It needs to sit on level ground in order to ensure that maximum storage is achieved (water won't run uphill!) and to remove the possibility of the bladder tank moving when filling. You do not need to prepare the ground with concrete. The bare earth is sufficient just as long as it is cleared free of any sharp objects and the provided geo-tech ground sheet is used underneath the reo sac®.

How good is the water quality from a reo sac®?

The reo sac® is made from potable grade fabric. It is the only reinforced bladder that is accredited to AS/NZS4020 for potable water. This means that the quality of the water stored in your reo sac® is safe for human consumption and safe for filling up swimming pools and fish ponds.

But remember that the quality of the water out of your reo sac® will only be as good as the quality of the water going nito your reo sac®. The team at Waterplex® can advise you on options for primary filtration for water prior to it entering your bladder tank.

Does the reo sac® come with a warranty?

Yes. The reo sac® has a market leading full 10 year warranty as long as it is installed  in accordance with the installation instructions. Be wary of brands that only offer a pro rata warranty!

Every reo sac® has a unique serial number so that it can be tracked through our system for its entire life.

Every single reo sac® is tested before it leaves the factory!

You can even register your warranty on line. (See our Warranty Registration page).

What sizes does the reo sac® come in?

reo sac® comes in 66 different sizes and configurations ranging from 1,150 litres to 7,050 litres in a single bladder tank. More storage can be achieved by joining multiple bladder tanks together as long as you have the space available.

If you have more than 900mm height, you may like to consider installing our AquaClad® flat-pack steel slimline tank instead. Click here for more details.

Can I claim a Government Rebate?

The reo sac® qualifies for local and federal government rebates where they apply. If you click on our "useful links" page, and then click on "rebate schemes" you will be able to see what rebates apply in your local area.

What can I use the water for?

The water stored in a reo sac® can be used to water the garden, fill swimming pools or fishponds or can be reticulated back into the house for use in toilets or washing machines. Our installers can advise on what size reo sac® is best to meet your water usage needs and also what pump is best for your needs.

How much does the reo sac® cost?

The reo sac® price depends on the size you buy and whether or not you buy a pump.

We can organise for a qualified installer to come and give you an obligation free quote on the reo sac® that best meets your needs and its installation or refer you to one of our national resellers.

What if I have 1.2m of height. Can I stack the sacs on top of each other?

No, reo sacs® cannot be stacked on top of each other. If you have more than 900mm height available, then you may like to consider installing an AquaClad® flat-pack steel slimline tank instead. Because the AquaClad® comes packed flat it can still get into tight spots under decks and houses like the sacs. Click here to find out more.

What happens if I move house?

The reo sac® is easily transportable so that if you move house you can simply empty the reo sac®, roll it up and dismantle the mounting plate and frame and all the connections. As long as the reo sac® will fit between the piers of your new house you can move it with all your other possessions and get a qualified installer to re-install it for you.
